What is microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a manual exfoliation treatment using a device that removes the top layer of dead and dry skin cells from the face. A microdermabrasion machine utilizes a diamond or crystal-tip wand to exfoliate the surface of the skin, while a gentle vacuum suction removes surface debris and deeply cleanses the pores. What are the benefits of this treatment?By encouraging cell turnover and renewal, this helps to address myriad skin concerns including: pigmentation, enlarged pores, uneven skin texture and more. Plus, exfoliation encourages blood flow to the tissue, stimulating cell metabolism and collagen synthesis, resulting in plumper, smoother, more youthful, and more radiant skin!

What to expect
Microdermabrasion is non-invasive and produces immediate results with little to no downtime. It’s very safe, non-chemical, and suitable for most skin types and conditions. After ensuring microdermabrasion is right for you, your esthetician will deeply cleanse and prepare your skin. Microdermabrasion is painless, though your skin may be pink or slightly flushed immediately following a treatment. This typically subsides quickly, turning into a natural healthy glow. Microdermabrasion also prepares your skin to absorb other active products for deep hydration. Following your treatment may include custom finishing products to infuse skin nutrition and enhance the benefits of treatment.
Before & Aftercare
Prior to microdermabrasion, you will want to avoid other deep exfoliating treatments for about one to two weeks. It is also important to discontinue use of Vitamin A or retinol products several days prior to your appointment. Following exfoliation, your skin will be more sun sensitive. Sun protection will be applied immediately following your treatment and you should be sure to reapply SPF often as part of your aftercare. Continue to use gentle, hydrating and soothing products as instructed by your esthetician. And avoid excess sun exposure and wait until your skin has healed before resuming other exfoliation or retinol usage.
Results & Maintenance
Microdermabrasion can be performed every 2-4 weeks, depending on your skin condition, for best results. Although you will notice immediate benefits from one treatment, it’s most effective when done in a series of treatments. Multiple treatments can be especially beneficial for addressing persistent skin issues like texture, scarring, hyperpigmentation and signs of aging.
To maintain results, choose high-quality home care products with active ingredients that boost your skin’s repair and rejuvenation. Keep the skin moisturized to prevent flaking or dryness and always apply SPF daily to protect your investment!
