What is a HydraFacial?
Somewhere on this planet, someone undergoes a Hydrafacial every 15 seconds. I’ll advise that you do not attempt the math: but if you insist on doing it, then just know that last year alone, no less than 2 million treatments were given. Quite huge, isn’t it?
You see, a Hydrafacial is a patented skin treatment that is given in medical spas and esthetics studios. It is also known as “hydradermabrasion” as it involves microdermabrasion-like exfoliation combined with hydrating serums.
Hydrafacial has a three-step process. It deep-cleans, hydrates, and exfoliates your skin. It is a professional procedure that helps treat various skin conditions, such as dryness, wrinkles, and acne.
Hydrafacial is a non-invasive procedure. The principle on which it operates is similar to the regular facial gotten from a spa. However, it yields more dramatic results. A mechanized wand is used to deep-clean your skin and exfoliate. At the same time, serums are delivered to your skin. The serum is formulated according to your skin type.
Would you like to know more about a Hydrafacial? Is it worth the hype? What are its potential benefits, and side effects? Read on to learn more about this procedure.
Benefits of a HydraFacial
A Hydrafacial improves the overall tone, texture, and appearance of your skin. This is attributed to the deep exfoliation that cleans out your pores, removes debris, and allow face serums to better penetrate your skin. The serums are formulated according to your skin type.
Currently, no studies have been done to examine the benefits of HydraFacial for acne.
However, it is important to note that microdermabrasion techniques have been considered as an effective treatment for acne and acne scars. This is because of its ability to exfoliate the skin deeply, and deep exfoliation removes the dead cells that clog your skin pores.
Dead skin cells cause blackheads. A blackhead is a non-inflammatory form of acne. Blackheads may benefit from the deep extracting and exfoliating methods which a HydraFacial is known for.
Very few things are as difficult as finding suitable cosmetic treatments for rosacea. It is a very sensitive skin condition. A study published in the journal Cosmetic Dermatology found that a HydraFacial may be beneficial for papulopustular rosacea.
A 2008 study involving 20 female participants found that Hydrafacial treatments helped to decrease signs of aging compared with those who used only serums. The anti-aging effects of Hydrafacial included less hyperpigmentation, decreased fine lines, and pore size.
Does a HydraFacial have any side effects?
Well, there are no known complications. However, you may feel very light pressure from the wand when the procedure is ongoing. A HydraFacial doesn’t cause redness or pain, as compared to other cosmetic treatments.
It is important that you avoid this procedure if you have a rash, like the one caused by a rosacea flare.
Can a HydraFacial be done during pregnancy?
As a pregnant woman, you must consult your healthcare provider before undergoing any cosmetic procedures. This includes the HydraFacial. According to a 2017 review, many cosmetic procedures can be done safely during pregnancy. However, there are not enough clinical studies to verify this claim.
Can it cause a breakout?
From the theoretical point of view, a HydraFacial can address the primary causes of a breakout – excess dead skin cells and sebum (oil). This treatment also clears the skin of impurities during skin purging that may occur after a deep exfoliation process.
Before undergoing treatment, you should inform your skincare provider if your skin is allergic or sensitive to any ingredients that may cause skin breakout after the treatment. It is also important that you follow up with your provider if you experience breakouts after a HydraFacial.
How does it work?
A HydraFacial is carried out by a licensed aesthetician or skin care professional. The procedure involves three parts:
Sometimes, a HydraFacial may be followed by other procedures, like LED light therapy and a mask application. It is important to note that these procedures are just add-ons and not necessarily a part of HydraFacial.
After undergoing the procedure, you’ll notice more radiant and smoother skin and even more toned skin. The results of a HydraFacial are immediately noticeable and do not show any signs of irritation.
Aftercare
A HydraFacial isn’t a harsh procedure, meaning that you can resume your regular daily activities right away.
While peeling or redness is not expected after a HydraFacial session, it is still important that you avoid exfoliating procedures for the first few days after a HydraFacial.
In conclusion…
A HydraFacial is an important cosmetic procedure and helps treat various skin concerns through its cleansing, hydrating, and exfoliating process.
