Hormonal Acne Triggered By Certain Foods?

Although your hormones may be to blame for acne breakouts, have you ever considered what could be causing the imbalance in the first place?

While it’s common for women to experience breakouts during their menstrual cycle, this isn’t a natural or normal occurrence. Heavy and painful periods, along with acne breakouts, shouldn’t be the norm.

Many factors in our environment can affect our hormones, and the typical solution offered by western medicine is birth control pills, which only mask the problem.

Every day, we’re exposed to toxins and chemicals in our environment, from our water and food supply to cosmetics and beyond. These chemicals can disrupt our hormones and cause serious long-term effects.

One often-overlooked hormone disruptor is food preservatives. These chemicals are estrogenic toxins that can trick your body into thinking it’s receiving more estrogen than it actually is, causing an overcompensation with testosterone, leading to hormonal imbalances, excess oil production, facial hair, and acne breakouts, as well as conditions like PCOS.

Foods that are high in preservatives include frozen foods, prepackaged goods, cookies, crackers, fast foods, protein bars, and snack bars. To reduce hormonal acne, consider consuming more fresh, whole foods that support a healthy diet.
